Baseball Recap: Liberty Tigers vs. Hulbert Riders
Liberty extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 2-13 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hulbert Riders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Riders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-4 on Tuesday.
As for Hulbert, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games.
For Hulbert's part, the team relied heavily on Ethan Thompson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Kellan Smith also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Liberty will venture away from home to challenge Porter at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Hulbert, they will head out to take on Locust Grove at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
