Basketball Recap: Rolando Anguiano Key Part of Team Effort in Pirates Win

Green River hadn't done well against Tabiona recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Pirates snuck past the Tigers with a 67-62 win. For the Pirates, this counts as revenge for the 73-54 victory the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2024.

Green River's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rolando Anguiano led the charge by going 5-for-8 on his way to 23 points and six rebounds. Anguiano has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. David Mendez was another key player, shooting 50% from the field to rack up 22 points.

Stran Giles and Rocky Rhoades certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Giles went 8-for-10 en route to 23 points and five boards, while Rhoades shot 67% from the field on his way to 23 points and six rebounds. That was a full 37.1% of Tabiona's points, marking the fifth time in a row Rhoades has posted more than a third of the team's points. Carson Curry also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Green River now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Tabiona, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 3-2.

Green River didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-64 defeat against Carbon on the 12th. Tabiona and Duchesne will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on the 18th. The Eagles have been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
