Recap: Summer Creek Bulldogs vs. Stratford Spartans
The Summer Creek Bulldogs had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Stratford 52-15 on the road. Considering Summer Creek has won nine games by more than 19 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Leading Summer Creek to victory were Lloyd Avant and Blake Thomas. Avant rushed for 188 yards and three touchdowns, while Thomas rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. Avant is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Stratford to a paltry 243 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Summer Creek's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out five times before it was all said and done. Stratford's QB won't forget Kaleb Walker anytime soon given Walker sacked him twice.
The win (which was Summer Creek's seventh in a row) raised their record to 12-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.0 points per game. As for Stratford, their loss dropped their record down to 9-4.
Summer Creek will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Fort Bend Hightower at 2:00 p.m. on December 2nd. The pair have allowed few points on average, (Fort Bend Hightower: 15.4, Summer Creek: 11.2) so any points scored will be well earned. Stratford does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
