Recap: Big Sandy Wildcats vs. Hawkins Hawks

The Big Sandy Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 55-36 to Hawkins. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Big Sandy has scored all season.

Big Sandy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Malijah Francis, who scored 11 points along with two steals. Francis hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Coleman, who scored nine points.

Big Sandy has been struggling recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 13 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season. As for Hawkins, the victory (which was their 19th in a row) raised their record to 23-1.

Big Sandy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Linden-Kildare at 2:30 p.m. on January 20th. Linden-Kildare comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 18 points in their last seven games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Hawkins, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Union Grove at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Union Grove will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1110th, while Hawkins is ranked 348th).
