Recap: Lakeland Hornets vs. Pearl River Pirates

The Pearl River Pirates typically have all the answers at home, but on Friday the Lakeland Hornets proved too difficult a challenge. Lakeland took down Pearl River 35-21. Winning may never get old, but Lakeland sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Lakeland's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grady Leonard, who threw for 185 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Kyle Gallagher did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 127 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Lakeland's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Pearl River, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lakeland will square off against Pleasantville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Pleasantville will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line. Pearl River will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Tappan Zee at 6:00 p.m. on November 8th. Tappan Zee will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 337th, while Pearl River is ranked 150th).
