League recap: Palatka wins, gets boost in standings

5A District 4 recap November 5, 2013

Palatka was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from fourth to second in 5A District 4. The Panthers beat Ponte Vedra 35-20 earlier in the week.

The Sharks lost to Palatka 35-20 last week, the largest margin of any game. Kurtis Willingham was a bright spot for Ponte Vedra, as he ran for 148 yards in the loss.

Trevon Bryant was a passing and rushing force as Menendez bested Ridgeview. Bryant's key target this week was Nate Fuller, who caught 2 passes for 18 yards.

Dillon Bates was the best receiver in the league this week as Mike Lloyd's team fell to Willie Offord's team. Bates racked up 2 receptions for 116 yards. Austin Reyes helped Ponte Vedra's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 22 yards.

The Sharks' Zach Wawrzyniak and Reyes led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Wawrzyniak has thrown for 1,078 yards this season, while Reyes has 31 catches for 342 yards. The Falcons' Bryant leads the league in rushing yards with 1,249.

Shannon Asbell of the Clay is only 56 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 175 carries Asbell has put up 944 yards this year.

Menendez and the Panthers played the most contested game in 5A District 4 this week, with Menendez eventually emerging with a 27-21 victory. Bryant ran for 187 yards during the win.
