Softball Game Preview: Kapolei Hurricanes vs. Campbell Sabers

The Kapolei Hurricanes will face off against the Campbell Sabers at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kapolei's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Campbell's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Kapolei is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Hawaii's top teams: Mililani, who was ranked first at the time (Kapolei was ranked second). Kapolei fell 13-9 to Mililani last Saturday. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Hurricanes, who until this matchup were averaging 3.8 runs allowed.

Kieryn Imai was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Imai, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Campbell unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They lost 12-4 to Grand Terrace. The contest marked the Sabers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Campbell saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Skylynne Gonzalez, who went 1-for-2 with one triple. That hit marked the first that Gonzalez got this season.

Campbell's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Kapolei, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-2.

Kapolei was able to grind out a solid win over Campbell in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 12-8. Does Kapolei have another victory up their sleeve, or will Campbell turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
