Baseball Recap: Montgomery's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Montgomery had lost four games straight , but after bumping their record up to 2-5 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Franklin Warriors 7-5. This was a revenge game for the Cougars: when they faced off against the Warriors on Tuesday, they had to take a 6-2 loss.

Jake Hayes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, Dominic Wacker was excellent, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Michael Englert also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

As for Franklin, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat they have suffered since April 30, 2024.

On Franklin's side, they saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elijah Zavatsky, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Jacob Gordon was another, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Montgomery will host Hamilton at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Franklin, they will be playing at home against Trenton Central at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
