Tarynn Vorhes made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Makenna Shaw, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Taryn Tate was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Waynesfield-Goshen kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Southeastern Local entered their tilt with Bradford on Thursday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They skirted past the Railroaders 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Trojans have posted since April 30th.
Like Waynesfield-Goshen, Southeastern Local also got a great game from a two-way player: Reese R Wells. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. R Wells was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Allie Lewis was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kami Horner, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Southeastern Local's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Waynesfield-Goshen, their record now sits at 14-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Waynesfield-Goshen hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Southeastern Local struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.9 home runs.
