Softball Recap: Horizon's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

It was a good run, but Horizon unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 12-8 to the East Ridge Knights. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Hawks, who until this match were averaging 1.68 runs allowed.

Addison Lamb and Mackenzie Duncan put in work while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Lamb tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Duncan struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and nine unearned) runs off four hits. Lamb has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Lamb went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Duncan got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI and one double. That triple marked the first that Lamb hit this season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Paisley Hernandez, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times she's played. Another was Ellie Ferradaz, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

Horizon's defeat dropped their record down to 16-3. As for East Ridge, their win bumped their record up to 16-4.

Horizon wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 9-0 victory against Dr. Phillips on the 9th. As for East Ridge, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-3 win against Cornerstone Charter Academy on the 10th.
