Baseball Recap: St. Charles Comes Up Short

St. Charles had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 5-12 to make it seven. They lost 10-1 to the Bishop Watterson Eagles. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Cardinals have suffered since May 8, 2024.

As for Bishop Watterson, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3-1 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by seven runs or more this season.

For Bishop Watterson's part, Noah Lawler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Lawler was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other pitching news, Anthony DeMassimo looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, Ben Uhlenhake was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and one stolen base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Michael Mulligan, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

St. Charles has already played their next game (against Teays Valley), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Bishop Watterson, they will challenge St. Francis DeSales at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The last three games the Stallions have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
