Basketball Game Preview: Camden County Bruins vs. First Flight Nighthawks

Camden County is 1-9 against First Flight since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Camden County Bruins will take on the First Flight Nighthawks at 7:30 p.m. That contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Xzavior Wiggins and Mason Dobie.

Camden County is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Northeastern on Wednesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Camden County lost 63-42 to Northeastern. While losing is never fun, the Bruins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 365th, while the Eagles are ranked 94th).

Meanwhile, First Flight didn't have too much trouble with Currituck County on Thursday as they won 74-55. The Nighthawks pushed the score to 64-44 by the end of the third, a deficit the Knights cut but never quite recovered from.

Camden County better keep an eye on Dobie. He was instrumental in First Flight's win, putting up 22 points. Dobie's evening made it 12 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Brody Woods was another key player, posting 11 points.

First Flight is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. As for Camden County, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8.

Camden County was dealt a bruising 71-43 defeat at the hands of First Flight when the teams last played on January 7th. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Woods, who went 6 for 14 on his way to 19 points along with five boards and five steals. Now that Camden County knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
