Baseball Recap: Springfield Comes Up Short

Springfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against the Albany Hornets, falling 9-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-2 last Wednesday.

Springfield saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colt Lirette, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Lirette is becoming a predictor of the Bulldogs' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-2 (and 8-13 when he doesn't).

Springfield's defeat dropped their record down to 12-15. As for Albany, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-9.

Looking ahead, Springfield is taking a road trip to challenge Covenant Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Albany, they will square off against Loranger at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Wolves' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Hornets' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
