Basketball Recap: Meyersdale Takes a Loss

If Meyersdale was riding high fresh off their 64-40 takedown of Rockwood two weeks ago, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Meyersdale Red Raiders took a blow against the North Star Cougars on Wednesday, falling 84-37. The Red Raiders haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.

Despite the loss, Meyersdale still got an impressive performance from Matthew Hainsworth, who posted eight points and five boards. Another player making a difference was Gavan Steinberg, who put up eight points.

Ethan Smith was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a triple-double on 24 points, nine rebounds, and nine steals for North Star. Smith's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Andy Retassie was another key player, putting up 16 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.

Meyersdale's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for North Star, they pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Meyersdale didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 81-43 defeat against Turkeyfoot Valley Area on the 9th. As for North Star, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 69-13 win against Rockwood on the 10th.
