Basketball Recap: Loomis Takes a Loss

Loomis easily dispatched St. Paul two weeks ago, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Loomis Wolves fell just short of the Elm Creek Buffaloes by a score of 72-70 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Wolves have suffered against the Buffaloes since January 5, 2018.

Despite the defeat, Loomis saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Grady Keeshan went 7 for 11 on his way to 17 points and eight rebounds. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for Keeshan. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyson Essex, who posted 11 points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Loomis was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

It was another big night for Quin Oberg, who went 14 of 22 on his way to 34 points in addition to six boards and five assists for Elm Creek. The dominant performance also gave Oberg a new career-high in blocks (four). Another player making a difference was Blake Erickson, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Loomis' loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Elm Creek, their record now sits at 9-2.

Loomis will venture away from home to square off against Arapahoe at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Loomis' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven matches. As for Elm Creek, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Wilcox-Hildreth at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
