Recap: Tonopah Valley Phoenix vs. Odyssey Institute Minotaur
This season hasn't been kind to the Tonopah Valley Phoenix, who are still winless after their eighth matchup. They took a serious blow against Odyssey Institute on Thursday, falling 42-12. Tonopah Valley lost against Odyssey Institute in their previous head to head back in January of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 34-13 score last time.
Odyssey Institute's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jahmaria Flowers led the charge by scoring 13 points along with four steals. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for her. Gwendolyn Carricart was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
Tonopah Valley's loss dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Odyssey Institute, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-11.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tonopah Valley will face off against Kingman at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Kingman has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Odyssey Institute is on the road again on Tuesday and play against River Valley at 5:30 p.m. on January 9th.
