Volleyball Recap: Fort Calhoun Pioneers vs. Douglas County West Falcon
If Fort Calhoun was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Schuyler last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pioneers came up short against the Douglas County West Falcon on Tuesday, falling 3-0. It was the first time this season that the Pioneers let down their fans at home.
Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 25-11, 25-21.
Emilee Thayer-Mencke paced Fort Calhoun's offense, picking up nine kills. Thayer-Mencke got some help from Sophie Weeks and her 15 assists. Thayer-Mencke was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.
Leading Douglas County West to victory were Abby Rayer and Amelia North. Rayer had nine digs and six assists, while North had five digs and three aces. What's more, North posted three kills, the most she's had over her last 13 contests.
The loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 14-5. As for Douglas County West, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season.
Fort Calhoun will be playing at home against Ashland-Greenwood at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Douglas County West, after both having extra time off, they and West Point-Beemer will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
