Basketball Game Preview: Monmouth United Red Storm vs. Wethersfield Flying Geese

The Monmouth United Red Storm will venture away from home to take on the Wethersfield Flying Geese at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.

On Saturday, Monmouth United didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Mercer County, but they still walked away with a 51-46 win. Given the Red Storm's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 323rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Wethersfield got the win against Biggsville West Central on Wednesday by a conclusive 51-31. The Flying Geese have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Monmouth United pushed their record up to 21-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.9 points per game. As for Wethersfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.

Monmouth United came up short against Wethersfield when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 40-32. Can Monmouth United avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
