Preview: Bellville Brahmas vs. Gilmer Buckeyes

Two dominant backs in DD Murray and Will Henderson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Bellville Brahmas are on the road again on Friday and play against the Gilmer Buckeyes at 3:00 p.m. on December 15th. Bellville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 15 matches -- so hopefully Gilmer likes a good challenge.

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Bellville walked away with it. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Texans 35-33. Given Bellville's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 13th, while Wimberley is ranked 73rd), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Murray and Corrian Hood were among the main playmakers for Bellville as the former rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns and the latter rushed for 121 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries. Hood was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 69 yards.

Meanwhile, Gilmer had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.9 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Glen Rose 79-42 on the road. The result was nothing new for Gilmer, who have now won seven games by 20 points or more so far this season.

Henderson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 271 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 15.1 yards per carry. Those 271 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for he. Dhrvay Smith and his 89 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Gilmer's win.

Bellville's win bumped their record up to 15-0. As for Gilmer, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3.

Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Bellville has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 395.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Gilmer struggles in that department as they've been averaging 292.3 rushing yards per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
