Softball Game Preview: Thornton Academy Trojans vs. Marshwood Hawks

The Thornton Academy Trojans will head out to face off against the Marshwood Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Thornton Academy has given up an average of 10.5 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Thornton Academy is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Monday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 14-13 heartbreaker at the hands of South Portland. Even if the Trojans couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Theresa Eng led a balanced group of hitters, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and one double while going 3-for-4. Allison Dattilo also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Marshwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Westbrook, falling 11-4.

Zoe Carnes was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Laurali Shisler was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs.

Marshwood's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Thornton Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.
