Softball Recap: Wickliffe Comes Up Short

The Wickliffe Blue Devils came up short against the LaBrae Vikings on Friday and fell 8-3. The Blue Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Leigha Blazetic was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off 12 hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Maddie Kita made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs. Mackayla Gazdak also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Wickliffe's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for LaBrae, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-1.

Wickliffe has already played their next matchup, a 4-1 win against Crestwood on the 28th. As for LaBrae, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 9-8 victory against Southeast on the 28th.
