Volleyball Recap: Kaylin Sheng's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Raleigh Charter over Neuse Charter

Raleigh Charter was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They fell 3-1 to the Neuse Charter Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 on September 4th.

While Raleigh Charter ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 17 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 22-25, 25-21, 25-20.

Several Phoenix players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kaylin Sheng, who had 14 digs and three aces. Fiona Shipman was another key player, getting five kills, four blocks, and four aces.

Leading Neuse Charter to victory were Mikayla Leonard and McKenzie Ward. Leonard had eight digs and two aces, while Ward had nine kills, eight digs, two blocks, and two aces. Ward has been hot, having posted five or more kills the last eight times she's played.

Raleigh Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 1-13. As for Neuse Charter, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season.

Raleigh Charter didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 loss against Roxboro Community on the 30th. As for Neuse Charter, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 defeat against Rosewood on the 29th.
