Softball Recap: Miami Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Miami waltzed into their contest on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They walked away with an 8-5 win over the Pima Roughriders. The Vandals have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Roughriders, too.

Tessa Roberts made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexcia Scoggins, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kadence Tapia, who went 3-for-5 with one double and one RBI.

Miami hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive games.

Miami's record now sits at 12-5. As for Pima, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 11-7.

Looking ahead, Miami will face off against Alchesay at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. The Falcons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.05 runs per game on average), something the Vandals will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Pima, they have already played their next matchup, a 20-7 victory against Valley Union on the 11th.
