Softball Recap: Marquez Comes Up Short

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Marquez couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell just short of the Verdugo Hills Dons by a score of 1-0 on Friday. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Gladiators haven't been shut out since back in April.

Darla Sanchez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.

Marquez's loss dropped their record down to 19-5. As for Verdugo Hills, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9-1 record this season.

Marquez does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Verdugo Hills, they will challenge Eagle Rock at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Dons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
