Baseball Game Preview: Meridian Trojans vs. Cashmere Bulldogs

The Meridian Trojans will head out to square off against the Cashmere Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meridian's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Cashmere's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Thursday, Meridian beat Brewster 6-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Trojans.

Cashmere hadn't beaten Zillah on the road since May 20, 2017 but that history sure didn't bother them on Tuesday. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Leopards. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won four games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Tom McDevitt was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Braylon Rubio, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Levi Strutzel, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Cashmere's record now sits at 8-2. As for Meridian, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Meridian was able to grind out a solid win over Cashmere when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 10-7. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
