Basketball Game Preview: Varela Vipers vs. South Miami Cobras

The Varela Vipers are taking a road trip to face off against the South Miami Cobras at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Varela's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

Varela took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 69-54 victory over Homestead.

Meanwhile, South Miami was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 53-48 heartbreaker at the hands of Mater Brickell Academy.

Varela now has a winning record of 2-1. As for South Miami, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Varela came out on top in a nail-biter against South Miami in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, sneaking past 59-57. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vipers since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
