Basketball Recap: Essex Drops Highest Score of Season Against West Point

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Essex). They walked away with a 60-51 win over the West Point Pointers on Monday. The Trojans have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Pointers, too.

Essex was led to victory by Morgan Self and Makiryn Williams. Self went 8 for 16 en route to 23 points in addition to seven boards and six blocks, while Williams dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds. Williams is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last seven games she's played. Octavia Floyd was another key player, putting up seven points.

Essex smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 22 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

The victory got Essex back to even at 6-6. As for West Point, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-4.

Essex won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Northumberland at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for West Point, they and Carver College and Career Academy will face off at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest having both just played.
