Basketball Recap: Santa Fe Comes Up Short

Santa Fe suffered their biggest loss since February 2nd on Friday. They were beaten by the La Porte Bulldogs 82-51. The defeat continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now lost three in a row.

Loss or not, Santa Fe got some senior leadership from Aidan Jewell and Kaidan Mata. Jewell went 8 for 14 on his way to 19 points and six rebounds, while Mata went 5 of 9 on his way to 13 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Crable, who posted five points and nine rebounds.

Leading La Porte to victory were Trent Callies and Caden Watson. Callies dropped a triple-double on 15 points, ten assists, and 14 steals, while Watson went 13 of 21 on his way to 29 points. The dominant performance gave Callies a new career-high in steals. Cody Miller was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Santa Fe's defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for La Porte, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.

Santa Fe wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 56-55 victory against Port Neches-Groves on the 27th. As for La Porte, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 77-56 loss against West Brook on the 27th.
