Football Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Sumter's Winning Streak + How To Watch

Sumter and James Island squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Sumter had to settle for second. They fell 42-35 to the Trojans. The Gamecocks were up 28-14 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Despite the loss, Sumter still got an impressive performance from Franklin Richardson, who rushed for 236 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 12.4 yards per carry.

Connor Dantzler continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for James Island, throwing for 265 yards and four TDs, while also rushing for 60 yards and a pair of scores. The dominant performance also gave Dantzler a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two). Raphael Puiu was Dantzler's top target, picking up 121 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

With the loss, Sumter broke their eight-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-2. As for James Island, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-1.

Sumter does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for James Island, they will challenge Stratford at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans will need to watch out since the Knights have now posted at least 31 points in their last four contests.
