Football Recap: McAlester Buffaloes vs. Poteau Pirates
McAlester lost against Poteau back in September of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Buffaloes took a 21-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pirates. While the Buffaloes had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Pirates 7-0.
When it comes to explaining why McAlester lost, don't look at Jordan Clark. Despite the final result, he rushed for 80 yards and one touchdown on only six carries. Clark didn't just play on offense: he also made seven total tackles and defended one pass.
Sam Tecla had an outrageously good game for Poteau as he threw for 166 yards and three TDs on only 15 passes, and also rushed for 77 yards.
McAlester's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Poteau, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McAlester will square off against Ada at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Poteau, they will face off against Tulsa NOAH HomeSchool at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
