Softball Recap: Bloomington Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Bloomington had to kick off their season on the road on Monday, but they showed no ill effects. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Limestone Rockets 3-1. The Purple Raiders haven't had any issues with the Rockets recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Reilly Vetter made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over eight innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Vetter was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

Vetter wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mara Copes, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. The dominant performance gave Copes a new career-high in RBI. Lauren Nichols was another, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Coming up, Bloomington will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Washington at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Limestone, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, an 11-7 defeat against Illinois Valley Central on the 18th.
