Softball Recap: Mt. Gilead Takes a Loss

Mt. Gilead was the 12-2 winner over East Knox when they last played one another on Wednesday, but their luck changed this time around. The Indians fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 5-4 on Friday. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

McKenlee Bump put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Charlie Brannon made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Mt. Gilead's record is now 6-18. As for East Knox, the win snapped their losing streak at eight games and leaves them with a 2-18 record.

Mt. Gilead has already played their next matchup (against Plymouth), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. East Knox will be paying especially close attention to the Indians' game: after the Indians face off against the Big Red, they'll take on East Knox again at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
