Softball Game Preview: West Covina Bulldogs vs. Charter Oak Chargers

West Covina is 0-10 against Charter Oak since April of 2019 but things could change on Monday. The Bulldogs will host the Chargers at 3:30 p.m. West Covina has given up an average of 8.8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

West Covina is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 18 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Wilson on Thursday. They lost 11-2 to the Wildcats.

Meanwhile, Charter Oak put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Covina with a sharp 13-3 victory. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.

Leila Diebert made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Lyla Caston was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jazmyn Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Charter Oak was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Charter Oak's win was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-0. As for West Covina, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-12-1.

West Covina suffered a grim 17-4 defeat to Charter Oak in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
