Baseball Recap: Oak Forest Academy Comes Up Short

After flying high against Purvis on Wednesday, Oak Forest Academy came back down to earth. The Oak Forest Academy Yellowjackets fell 5-1 to the Lafayette Commodores on Wednesday. The matchup marked the Yellowjackets' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Oak Forest Academy got a good showing from Tyler Mulkey, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Mulkey has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Oak Forest Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blayke Danna, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one RBI. Kade Perkins also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Oak Forest Academy fell to 6-1. As for Lafayette, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.

Coming up, Oak Forest Academy is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game this season: they will take on D'Iberville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Oak Forest Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 1.7 runs per game this season, so D'Iberville's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lafayette, they will challenge Second Baptist at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Second Baptist 2.4, Lafayette 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
