Baseball Recap: Hillcrest Huskies vs. Cottonwood Colts
Hillcrest had lost nine straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 2-20 to make it ten. They came up short against the Cottonwood Colts, falling 8-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Colts this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-6 on Tuesday.
As for Cottonwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.2 runs.
For Cottonwood's part, Brighton Young spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Daxton Sorensen was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Angel Mavarez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
While Hillcrest had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
