Basketball Recap: Newport Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Wins at Home

While it was all tied up 34-34 at halftime, Newport was not quite Rivercrest's equal in the second half on Friday. They fell 63-56 to the Rivercrest Colts. The defeat continues a trend for the Greyhounds in their matchups with the Colts: they've now lost four in a row.

Destiny Burks continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Rivercrest, almost dropping a double-double on 30 points and nine rebounds. The contest was Burks' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Lakiya Speed, who posted eight points along with seven boards and three steals.

Newport's loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-8. As for Rivercrest, they pushed their record up to 14-8 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games.
