Softball Recap: Hough Takes a Loss

If Hough was feeling good fresh off their 19-0 takedown of West Mecklenburg last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Hough Huskies fell just short of the West Forsyth Titans by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Huskies have suffered since March 13, 2024.

Payton Elwell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on two hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

Hough's defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for West Forsyth, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hough will square off against West Charlotte at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The timing isn't great for West Charlotte: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Hough has snatched up six consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season. As for West Forsyth, they will take on Reagan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (West Forsyth 0.9, Reagan 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
