Softball Game Preview: Commerce Tigers vs. Chisum Mustangs

The Commerce Tigers will square off against the Chisum Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chisum took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Commerce, who comes in off a win.

Commerce is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top against Life Waxahachie by a score of 13-8 on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Tigers needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Charley Lytle was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Kaleigh Robrecht was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Elissa Parra was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Commerce always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .644. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Chisum was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss. They came up short against Rains, falling 18-0.

Chisum's defeat dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Commerce, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-15-1.

Commerce skirted past Chisum 11-10 when the teams last played back in March. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
