MaxPreps High School Top 50 boys baseball national rankings

Blessed Trinity (Roswell, Ga.) was the highest team to fall as it dropped out after coming in at No. 7 last week. It lost to Jefferson in two games in the Georgia Region AAAAA state semifinals.

Meanwhile No. 9 Flanagan (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) lost its second game of the season when it fell to Stoneman Douglas in the second round of the Florida Class 9A state playoffs.

Then there was Havard-Westlake (Studio City, Calif.). The favorite to win the Southern Section Division I playoffs, the Wolverines lost to Valencia in the first round.



Other top 25 teams to lose and drop out of the top 50 included Staley (Kansas City, Mo.), which lost its second game of the season during the district tournament, and McAllen (Texas), which was eliminated from the Texas Class 6A state playoffs by Alexander (Laredo).

The top four teams remained intact with No. 1 Calvary Christian (Clearwater, Fla.) moving to within two games of a second straight undefeated season. Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.), which is done for the season, also did not move, while Argyle (Texas) stayed at No. 3 and Cleburne (Texas) stayed at No. 4.

1. (Last week 1) Calvary Christian (Clearwater, Fla.), 29-0
Nolan Hudi picked up his 12th win of the season in leading the Warriors to a 6-1 win over Trinity Catholic (Ocala) in the second round of the Class 4A state playoffs. Hudi gave up one run on two hits with nine strikeouts. Christian Cairo and Eric Kennedy led the offense with one double apiece. Calvary Christian meets Trinity Christian Academy (Jacksonville) in the semifinals.

2. (2) Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.), 26-0
Season over.

3. (3) Argyle (Texas), 32-0
Argyle had one of its closest games of the season in the first game of their playoffs series with Melissa as it held off a late rally to claim a 7-3 win. Austin King had a double and five RBIs to lead the Argyle offense. The Eagles won their 19th shutout of the season in a 10-0 victory in the second game. Brenden Dixon had a home run and three RBIs.

4. (4) Cleburne (Texas), 34-1-2
Willie Rangel threw a one-hit, 3-0 shutout against Crowley in the third round of the Class 5A state playoffs. He finished with nine strikeouts and four walks. Cleburne beat Crowley 7-2 in the second game to advance to the regional semifinals against Prosper.



5. (6) Riverdale Baptist (Upper Marlboro, Md.), 32-1
Riverdale Baptist did not play last week. They will meet Caravel (Bear, Del.) in their final game of the season on Monday.

6. (8) John Curtis Christian (River Ridge, La.), 30-4
Louisiana Division I state champion. Season over.

7. (12) St. Xavier (Louisville, Ky.), 30-1
The Tigers showed no slowing down after suffering their first loss of the season two weeks ago as they went 5-0 last week. They defeated Marion County (Lebanon), 8-5, Christian Academy-Louisville 8-0, North Bullitt (Shepherdsville) 12-2, North Oldham (Goshen) 4-3 and Highlands (Fort Thomas) 4-3.

8. (15) Vianney (Kirkwood, Mo.), 33-2
Vianney defeated Ladue Horton Watkins 9-2 and St. Louis University 12-0 in the district tournament to advance to the state tournament. Luke Mann threw a no-hitter in the second game, striking out eight with no walks.

9. (16) Har-Ber (Springdale, Ark.), 31-4
Junior Blake Adams had a big day at the plate and on the mound to lead Har-Ber to a Class 7A state championship with a 6-0 win over Conway. Adams threw a four-hit shutout and struck out nine to get the win. He also had two doubles at the plate.

10. (17) Mountain Vista (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), 21-0
Mountain Vista was idle last week. It will compete in the Class 5A state tournament this week.



11. (19) Valley Christian (San Jose, Calif.), 27-3-1
The Warriors opened the Central Coast Section Open Division playoffs with an 8-0 win over Sacred Heart Prep (Atherton). Patrick Wicklander went five innings for the win, striking out seven and walking none. They face San Benito (Hollister) in the second round.

12. (20) American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.), 24-3
The Patriots advanced to the regional final for the first time since 2013 with a 12-3 win over Archbishop McCarthy (Fort Lauderdale). Cory Acton had a home run and four RBIs, while Triston Casas had a double and three RBIs.

13. (21) La Cueva (Albuquerque, N.M.), 27-3
New Mexico Class 6A state champion. Season over.

14. (22) Liberty Christian (Lynchburg, Va.), 17-0
The Bulldogs belted five home runs in an 18-1 win over Heritage including two by Kyle Horton. Wesley Clarke, Pell Collins and Bailey Reynolds also hit one out.

15. (23) Wesleyan Christian Academy (High Point, N.C.), 23-1
The Trojans won the NCISAAA Class 3A state championship with an 8-3, 6-5 sweep of Charlotte Christian. They also defeated Charlotte Country Day School 4-1 in the semifinals.

16. (24) Faith Academy (Mobile, Ala.), 34-3
Faith Academy captured the Class 5A state championship by beating Russellville 5-3, 7-3 in the championship series. Russellville had won the past three Class 5A state titles.



17. (50) Reagan (San Antonio), 32-6
The Rattlers advanced to the Class 6A regional semifinals by sweeping Lake Travis. Seth Morrow had two doubles and a triple in a 6-4 win while Josh Buske struck out 10 in a 3-2 win.

18. (5) Lake Travis (Austin, Texas), 31-4
The Cavaliers saw their season come to an end in the Class 6A regional quarterfinals with a 6-4, 3-2 loss to Reagan (San Antonio).

19. (13) Mill Creek (Hoschton, Ga.), 34-6
Mill Creek advanced to the Georgia Region AAAAAAA state championship series by beating Brookwood (Snellville) in three games. Mill Creek won the first game 6-4, before losing the second 3-6. It rebounded to win the rubber game 5-2. Mill Creek meets Parkview for the state title.

20. (29) Parkview (Lilburn, Ga.), 34-6
Parkview returns to the Region AAAAAAA championship series after knocking off Woodstock in the semifinals. Parkview lost the first game 4-3, but won the next two 5-1 and 6-1. The Panthers meet Mill Creek in the finals.

21. (14) O'Fallon (Ill.), 30-3-1
O'Fallon lost its third game of the season, falling to Edwardsville 3-0 early in the week. It won its next three games, scoring nearly 40 runs in the process. O'Fallon beat Collinsville 10-2, Freeburg 6-2 and Triad 20-3.

22. (25) Huntington Beach (Calif.), 26-5
The Oilers advanced to the second round of the Southern Section Division I playoffs with a 9-1 win over Vista Murrieta (Murrieta).

23. (26) Neuqua Valley (Naperville, Ill.), 27-3
After losing three games two weeks ago, Neuqua Valley went 3-0 last week with a sweep of Glenbard North, 4-0, 3-1 and 11-0.



24. (27) Eastlake (Chula Vista, Calif.), 25-3-1
Eastlake maintained its spot as the top team in San Diego by sweeping Montgomery (San Diego) 7-4 and 10-0. Grant Holman raised his record to 8-1 with the shutout win.

25. (31) Greenwood (Ark.), 32-3
Greenwood defeated Benton 4-0 to claim the Arkansas Class 6A state championship.

The Tigers captured the Alabama Class 7A state championship with a 4-1, 1-0 sweep of Hewitt-Trussville.

27. (28) Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.), 23-7
The Lancers opened the Southern Section Division I playoffs with a 3-0 win over Moorpark.

28. (33) George Jenkins (Lakeland, Fla.), 25-3
The Eagles defeated Lakeland 7-1 to advance to the Class 8A regional final.

29. (35) St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), 24-3
The Raiders defeated Coral Glades 12-0 to advance to the third round of the Class 8A state playoffs.



30. (38) Pope (Marietta, Ga.), 31-6
The Greyhounds defeated River Ridge 9-5 and 10-3 to advance to the Region AAAAAA state championship game against Allatoona.

31. (39) Bishop England (Charleston, S.C.), 31-2
The Bishops defeated Seneca 1-0 in the second game of the Class 3A state championship series to win the title.

32. (40) Colleyville Heritage (Colleyville, Texas), 31-5
The Panthers swept Denison 5-2 and 4-2 in the Class 5A Regional Quarterfinals and face Amarillo in the semifinals.

33. (36) Joliet Catholic (Joliet, Ill.), 27-5
Although Joliet Catholic lost a 5-4 decision to Benet, it also posted three shutout wins. The Hilltoppers blanked Benet 4-0 and Marian Central 10-0 and 2-0.

34. (42) Central (Baton Rouge, La.), 28-12-1
Louisiana Class 5A state champion. Season over.

Season over.



36. (44) Vero Beach (Fla.), 25-2
Vero Beach did not play last week and continues postseason play Monday against Palm Harbor University.

37. (45) La Mirada (Calif.), 26-3-1
The Matadores opened the Southern Section Division I playoffs with a 6-2 win over Woodbridge (Irvine).

38. (NR) New Hanover (Wilmington, N.C.), 24-0
Two previous losses were deemed forfeit wins, leaving New Hanover undefeated entering the semifinals of the North Carolina Class 3A state playoffs.

39. (NR) O'Connor (Phoenix), 22-10
The Eagles topped Mountain Ridge 7-1 to capture the Arizona Class 6A state championship.

40. (NR) Bay City Western (Auburn, Mich.), 25-2
The Warriors will likely take over the No. 1 spot in this week's Division I Michigan Baseball Coaches Association rankings.

41. (NR) Beckman (Irvine, Calif.), 23-3-1
The Patriots are ranked No. 1 in Division 2 in the Southern Section rankings.



42. (NR) Loganville (Ga.), 33-6
The Red Devils take on Buford for the Georgia Region AAAAA state championship.

43. (NR) DeSoto Central (Southaven, Miss.), 29-9
The Jaguars defeated George County (Lucedale) 4-5, 5-1, 10-1 to claim the Mississippi Class 6A state championship.

44. (NR) Ardrey Kell (Charlotte, N.C.), 24-5
The Knights reached the Final Four in the Class 4A state playoffs, knocking off Lake Norman 3-0, Providence 4-0 and West Forsyth (which had defeated South Caldwell) 10-3.

45. (NR) Bishop Kelley (Tulsa, Okla.), 29-5
The Comets defeated Pryor 7-2 for the Oklahoma Class 5A state championship.

46. (NR) Baldwin (Wailuku, Hawaii), 17-1
The Bears defeated Waiakea 14-4 for the Hawaii Division I state championship.

47. (NR) Aurora (Mo.), 27-1
The Houn Dawgs are ranked No. 1 in Class 4A in the state coaches association rankings.



48. (NR) Science Hill (Johnson City, Tenn.), 35-7
The Hilltoppers are the top-ranked team heading into this week's Tennessee Class AAA state tournament.

49. (NR) Benjamin (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.), 24-4
The Buccaneers face Calvary Christian (Fort Lauderdale), a team it has beaten already this season, in the Class 4A state semifinals.

50. (NR) Allatoona (Acworth, Ga.), 33-6
The Buccaneers will face Pope (Marietta) in the Georgia Region AAAAAA state championship game.
