Preview: Del Rio Rams vs. Alexander Bulldogs
The Del Rio Rams will be playing at home against the Alexander Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 45-14, which was the final score in Del Rio's tilt against United on Friday. While losing is never fun, Del Rio can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 741st, while United is ranked 359th).
Despite the loss, Del Rio saw an underclassman step up: Fermin Rodriguez rushed for 156 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Alexander had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 21-7 win over United South.
It was another big night for Gael Rodriguez, who rushed for 237 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.5 yards per carry. Rodriguez really tore up the turf during one magnificent 88-yard run.
Del Rio has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. As for Alexander, their win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 5-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's match: Del Rio has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 177.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Alexander struggles in that department as they've been even better at 204.1 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Del Rio took their victory against Alexander in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 by a conclusive 34-13. Does Del Rio have another victory up their sleeve, or will Alexander turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
