Basketball Recap: Noah Steiger's Big Game Can't Quite Lead San Lorenzo Valley over Gilroy

San Lorenzo Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a hard 47-32 fall against the Gilroy Mustangs. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Noah Steiger, who posted ten points and three steals. What's more, Steiger also racked up two rebounds, the most he's had since back in November of 2023. Another player making a difference was Caelen Alsing, who put up six points and three steals.

San Lorenzo Valley's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Gilroy, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. San Lorenzo Valley will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Soledad at 6:00 p.m. on January 4, 2025. Gilroy will also get a bit of a break before their next matchup: they'll face off against St. Francis at 1:30 p.m. on January 4, 2025.
