Softball Recap: Boyne City Takes a Loss

Boyne City dropped their record down to 10-17 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Grayling Vikings by a score of 3-2. The Ramblers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Vikings earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

As for Grayling, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 19-6-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games.

For Grayling's part, Jessica Campbell made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Campbell has posted since back in April. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple.

Campbell wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cali D'Amour, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. D'Amour is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Boyne City does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Grayling, they will challenge Gladstone on Saturday. The Braves' pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so the Vikings' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
