The Upper Sandusky Rams will take on the Liberty-Benton Eagles in a tournament on Monday. Upper Sandusky is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.7 runs per game this season.
Upper Sandusky was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Wynford on Friday. The Rams put the hurt on the Royals with a sharp 15-4 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Rams considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Kenslee Swavel was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Ella Frombaugh was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Adilyn Hessey, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, Liberty-Benton was a bit more limited in their game on Saturday. They fell 6-1 to Coldwater.
Megan Gerken spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits.
Liberty-Benton's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-9. As for Upper Sandusky, their victory bumped their record up to 19-5.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Upper Sandusky hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .433. However, it's not like Liberty-Benton struggles in that department as they've averaged .343. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Upper Sandusky came out on top in a nail-biter against Liberty-Benton when the teams last played back in April, sneaking past 9-8. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
