Softball Game Preview: Shadow Mountain Matadors vs. Thunderbird Titans

The Shadow Mountain Matadors will face off against the Thunderbird Titans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Shadow Mountain has given up an average of 10.5 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Shadow Mountain had been on a six-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Thunderbird put an end to it on Monday. The Matadors lost 14-2 to the Titans. The Matadors haven't had much luck with the Titans recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

For Thunderbird's part, Addison Hodge made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Hodge was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Brooke Casey was a standout: she got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Faith Olea, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Thunderbird was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. They are 8-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Thunderbird's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-10. As for Shadow Mountain, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.

Thunderbird's pitching crew better be locked in on Wednesday. Shadow Mountain hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game.
