Baseball Game Preview: Houston Academy Raiders vs. Ashford Yellowjackets

Houston Academy has gone a perfect 10-0 against Ashford recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Houston Academy Raiders are taking a road trip to take on the Ashford Yellowjackets at 5:00 p.m. Houston Academy will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Houston Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Daleville on Monday as Houston Academy made off with an 18-0 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Whit Price made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs.

In other pitching news, Cooper Powell looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero).

Back at the plate, Daniel Guin was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Blake Roberson, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Houston Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Ashford duked it out with Cottondale. in a bug-themed battle on Monday. Ashford came up short against Cottondale, falling 13-3. The Yellowjackets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Ashford's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Houston Academy, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-9.

Houston Academy took their win against Ashford in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Houston Academy since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
