Volleyball Recap: Southington Extends Winning Streak to Four

Southington had already won three in a row and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They put the hurt on the New Britain Golden Hurricanes with a sharp 3-0 win. That's more bragging rights for the Blue Knights, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-6, 25-14, 25-19.

Southington got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Laura Esguerra out in front who had 16 assists and seven aces. With that strong performance, Esguerra is now averaging an impressive 2.1 aces per game. Angelica Stavidlo also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

They weren't the only good servers: Southington was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 23 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 15 consecutive contests.

When it comes to explaining why New Britain lost, don't look at Olivia Dupont. Despite the final result, she had 20 blocks and five digs.

Southington's win bumped their record up to 15-9-3. As for New Britain, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southington will host Glastonbury at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for New Britain, they will be playing at home against University at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
