Softball Game Preview: Woodlawn Bears vs. Warren Lumberjacks

The Woodlawn Bears will face off against the Warren Lumberjacks at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Woodlawn is coming into the match hot, having won their last 14 games.

If Woodlawn beats Warren with five runs on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Bears didn't even let Poyen on the board on Friday, marking the Bears' second-straight 5-0 shutout.

Lillie McWhorter made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one hit any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Macy Harrison, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Lilly Joe Bradley was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Warren's offense. They lost 6-0 to Star City on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Lumberjacks in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost eight in a row.

Warren saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haven Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with one double.

Woodlawn's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Warren, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-3.
