Softball Recap: Bonneville Gets the Win

After low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Bonneville brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They walked away with a 10-6 victory over the Woods Cross Wildcats on Thursday. The Lakers haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Peyton Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 12 Ks.

On the hitting side, Marley Chournos was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with two triples and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Madilyn DeGroot, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Chournos wasn't the only one making solid contact: Bonneville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Woods Cross only managed five hits.

Bonneville's victory bumped their record up to 4-10. As for Woods Cross, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bonneville will square off against Farmington at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Lakers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Phoenix have averaged an impressive 12.5 runs per game this season. As for Woods Cross, they will challenge Mountain View at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bruins have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.69 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
