Volleyball Recap: Corona Del Sol Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Mater Dei

Corona del Sol is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Mater Dei. The Aztecs took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Monarchs. The Aztecs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Monarchs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2016.

Corona del Sol was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the first set very close. The final score came out to 25-22, 25-15.

Paige Nenaber paced Corona del Sol's offense, picking up eight kills. Nenaber got some help from Adelyn Chang and her 23 assists.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mater Dei to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lizzy Robinson, who had 11 digs and two assists. That's the most digs Robinson has posted over her last five matches.

Having lost for the first time this season, Corona del Sol fell to 18-1. As for Mater Dei, they pushed their record up to 15-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Corona del Sol didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 2-0 loss against Cornerstone Christian on the 20th. As for Mater Dei, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 2-1 defeat against Marymount on the 20th.
