Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only University walked away with it. They came out on top against the Rio Hondo Prep Kares by a score of 4-1 on Friday. The victory was familiar territory for the Trojans, who have now won five matches in a row.

Carson Cruz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, University saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gidget Smith, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one RBI. Another was Amela Hoang, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

University's win bumped their record up to 16-10. As for Rio Hondo Prep, they moved to 20-6 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. University will be playing in front of their home fans against Marquez at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Gladiators will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight. As for Rio Hondo Prep, they will host Taft at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Kares will need to watch out since the Toreadors have now posted at least ten runs in their last three games.
